Bhubaneswar :05/03/2014: Narvada Chaudhary ( OBB/S.C): Odisha’s first Bone Marrow Transplantation-Sum Hospital: The first ever Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) in Odisha conducted by Sum Hospital was successfully undergone. The recent addition of the department of Hematology and Stem Cell Transplantation has ensured and equally given strength to suffering and ailling people to fight against the deadly disease.Dr. Pramod Kumar Das as the HOD has multidisciplinary staff comprising of doctors, nurses, dietician & psychologist. The unit of stem cell transplantation has six beds, Hepa filter and laminar flow system. Each room has ICU along with the facility of dialysis. A pharmacy with laminar air hood so as to prepare drugs in sterile cabinet, separate kitchen to prepare pressure cooked food. Blood bank with round the clock service. Inspite of these facilities the treatment to the patient is provided at affordable costs. A, 42 year old man from jharsuguda district had multiple myeloma and stem cells were transplanted in him after chemotherapy.Lastly, It seems a ray of hope has overcome the moaning condition of a common man.
