OBB: Justice P.K.Mohanty ,no more.a condolence meeting was held in Orissa High Court presided by Hon'ble Justice Pradeep Kumar Mohanty, learned Advocate General Mr.Ashok Kr.Mohanty President High Court Bar Association Mr.Bijon Roy and advocates of the Bar joined the condolence and as a mark of respect to the departed soul 2mts silence was observed .Late Justice P.K.Mohanty was man of exceptional character .An insight view speaks Justice Mohanty had a chequered career .Born to late Achhutananda(father) & late Nishamani (mother) on 16.07.1922 at Mulasuanga ,Salepur in the district of Cuttack .
Mysterious life was his .Craze for a son was acutely felt in the early Oriya families and the family of late Achhutananda, his father was no exception ;when the family felt being burdened with three female child ,his mother late Nishamani faced lot of humiliation from the family members and one day with her surrendering to Shree Shree Achhutanada she decided to sacrifice her life in the event son is not born to her and on the said light her 
mother had received heavenly light for a son as a result ,Justice Prafulla Kr.Mohanty had his birth in the family and thus he was a child 4th in succession and thereafter 5 other children were born (one son and four daughters).His father was then working as a clerk in the Ravenshaw Collegiate School,Cuttack who retired in the year 1947.Justice Mohanty started his primary education in Gurukula School under Chintamani sir and he came to Cuttack in the year 1930 and took up his study in 4th class in P.M.Academy ,Cuttack and completed his matriculation from Ravenshaw Collegiate School in 1938 and took his admission into intermediate course in Ravenshaw College .While prosecuting his intermediate study ,he had simultaneously completed his Type writing and Short -hand ,Telegraphy and Homeopathy.In 1940 ,he joined as clerk in the judgeship of Cuttack comprising of Cuttack,Sambalpur and Balasore and in 1948 when Orissa High Court was established ,he was posted as Gr.1 Asst. in High Court and during his active service ,he sought for permission to take up law study but the high court had then permitted him to study law subject to his executing a bond to serve for three years after completion of his study in law and in fact after his law degree positioned in 1st class ,he became bit ambitious and for the sake of his joining the bar he sought for the permission to resign from service and that was not allowed at the first instance but thereafter ,he was allowed by the decision of the Full-Court and therafter ,he joined the Bar in the office of Srikanta Mohanty and L.K.Das Gupta.During his active practice both in Civil and Criminal laws he was appointed as Addl.District Judge and as incidental to his service in judiciary he had his elevation to the Judge of Orissa High Court on 3rd Oct. 1974 
and then elevated to the position of being the Acting Chief Justice of Orissa High Court and retired in the year 1983.

Justice Mohanty .first of his stature had taken interest for compilations of Acts and Rules in Orissa and authored the and had always been active his post retirement legal practice in effective consultation of legal views.Man of easy access,no formality in protocol ever insisted upon.His descendants grandson Mr.Saroj Kumar Das has still followed the foot steps of justice Mohanty by helping the persons in distress .Many a times ,it was seen ,Justice Mohanty had encourage Saroj Kr.Das although his father was then the District Judge .After have led quite a long stretched eventful and sucessful life ,Justice Prafulla kumar Mohanty breathed his last at 6.35 dtd 5th Jan.2014(Sunday) .No sooner the news of leavring for heavenly abode broke than the judges like Justice P.K.Mohanty,justice Dr.A.K.Rath,justice Dr.B.R.Sarangi ,justice Biswajeet Mohanty and many other advocates and social workers thronged and paid floral tribute to the departed soul.As per the opinion of Justice Indrajit Mohanty, he is first the permanent lawyer of the bar being one among the lawyers then he is the judge which is a short-lived concept and that being his lordship,s ideals , he has personally organised the last journey-tribute to the departed soul as that of his time in the bar being the leader.
